Life is incredibly challenging for orphaned children in Uganda, a country in Sub-Saharan Africa grappling with a range of issues like extreme poverty, high rates of malaria, and AIDS. Furthermore, Uganda has a painful history of conflict, with many children forced to leave their families to avoid abduction and recruitment into groups like the Lord's Resistance Army, earning them the name "Night Commuters." Despite some progress, Uganda still grapples with a significant orphan crisis, with an estimated 3.5 million children orphaned due to AIDS or violence.

 

These children, through no fault of their own, often face discrimination and marginalization due to the cultural stigma associating AIDS orphans with witchcraft or sorcery.

Many live in dire poverty, leading to abandonment and child labor. Orphaned and abandoned children are exceptionally vulnerable to threats such as trafficking, exploitation, and abuse. Organizations like Born Like Others provide these children with essential relief from the harsh realities they would otherwise endure.
